Phylogenetic confirmation of the genus Robbea (Nematoda: Desmodoridae, Stilbonematinae) with the description of three new species

چکیده
The Stilbonematinae are a monophyletic group of marine nematodes that are characterized by a coat of thiotrophic bacterial symbionts. Among the ten known genera of the Stilbonematinae, the genus Robbea Gerlach 1956 had a problematic taxonomic history of synonymizations and indications of polyphyletic origin. Here we describe three new species of the genus, R. hypermnestra sp. nov., R. ruetzleri sp. nov. and R. agricola sp. nov., using conventional light microscopy, interference contrast microscopy and SEM. We provide 18S rRNA gene sequences of all three species, together with new sequences for the genera Catanema and Leptonemella. Both our morphological analyses as well as our phylogenetic reconstructions corroborate the genus Robbea. In our phylogenetic analysis the three species of the genus Robbea form a distinct clade in the Stilbonematinae radiation and are clearly separated from the clade of the genus Catanema, which has previously been synonymized with Robbea. Surprisingly, in R. hypermnestra sp. nov. all females are intersexes exhibiting male sexual characters. Our extended dataset of Stilbonematinae 18S rRNA genes for the first time allows the identification of the different genera, e.g. in a barcoding approach. http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:D37C3F5A-CF2B-40E6-8B09-3C72EEED60B0.

Molecular characterization of the symbionts associated with marine nematodes of the genus Robbea‡
Marine nematodes that carry sulfur-oxidizing bacteria on their cuticle (Stilbonematinae, Desmodoridae) migrate between oxidized and reduced sand layers thereby supplying their symbionts with oxygen and sulfide. These symbionts, in turn, constitute the worms' major food source. Due to the accessibility, abundance and relative simplicity of this association, stilbonematids may be useful to unders...
متن کاملA synopsis of the genus Rheum (Polygonaceae) in Iran with description of three new species
According to previous studies, the genus Rheum in Iran includes four species: R. turkestanicum Janisch., R. persicum Losinsk., R. ribes L. and R. khorasanicum Baradaran & Jafari. During the long-term study, based on field and many herbaria specimens, three new species including R. iranshahrii Taheri & Assadi sp. nov., R. kordestanicum Taheri & Assadi sp. nov. and R. austro-iranicum Taheri & Ass...

The genus Alburnoides Jeitteles, 1861 in Iran is reviewed, and diagnoses are presented for all eight recognized species. Alburnoides eichwaldii, A. holciki, A. idignensis, A. namaki, A. nicolausi, A. petrubanarescui, A. qanati and A. tabarestanensis are considered valid and three new species are described: Alburnoides coadi sp. n., from Namrud River in Kavir basin, A. parhami sp. n., from Atrak...
متن کاملSpirodesma magdae nov . gen . nov . sp . ( Nematoda : Desmodoridae ) from the Brazilian deep sea ( Campos Basin , Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) *
A new genus and species of Desmodoridae was found in deep-sea sediments of the Campos Basin. Although the cuticle annulation of the new species is similar to members of Desmodorinae, many morphological features are strong enough to classify it within the Spiriniinae. Spirodesma magdae nov. gen. nov. sp. is characterized mainly by the presence of a unique form of unispired amphids, with circular...
متن کاملPrometheum rechingeri, a new report from Iran
In the course of the study of collected specimens from West Azerbaijan province (NW Iran), Prometheum rechingeri (Crassulaceae) is reported for the first time from Iran. Based on recent phylogenetic and morphological studies in Crassulaceae family, genus Prometheum was considered as independent genus. So far, two species viz. P. pilosum (under Sedum pilosum), and P. sempervivoides (under S. se...
